PATHANAMTHITTA: Kerala gave an emotional farewell to baby Alin Sherin, the youngest ever organ donor in the state. Alin was cremated with official honours after prayers at the Nedungadappally CSI St. Thomas Church.
Alin Sherin Abraham, declared brain dead following a car accident on February 13, gave a new lease of life to four other children. Her heart valve, liver, kidneys and eyes were donated.Prayer ceremonies began at 7 am today at the George Mathen Hospital Chapel in Mallappally. After the public viewing at the hospital, Alin’s mortal remains were taken to her home in Nedungadapally at 8 am. The public viewing began after the prayer ceremony inside the home. Hundreds of people came to pay their last respects.Alin’s mother, Sherin, who suffered injuries in the accident, arrived home the other day. Alin’s father, Arun, was the first to give consent to organ donation. Arun said that when he told Sherin, she wholeheartedly agreed and then coordinated the organ donation process through the government system, K-SOTTO. While responding to the media the other day, Arun expressed gratitude for the love received for Alin from all parts of the world. He said it gave them the strength to tackle through these tough times.
