Kerala: Police hope to catch ‘Instagram friend’ before Friday

Kazhakkottam: Police have intensified the search for the suspect who fled after killing the priest’s wife in Kadinamkulam. Athira (30), wife of Rajeev, priest of Bhagavathi temple in Bharanikadu, was murdered at 11.30 am on Tuesday. Police believe they will nab the culprit before Friday. The murder took place in a densely populated residential area, but neighbours are shocked as there were no screams or noises from the house during the incident. During inspections conducted by the police, including railway stations, Athira’s scooter, on which the accused was travelling, was found near the counter of Chirayinkeezhu railway station on Tuesday night. CCTV footage of the lodge in Perumthura where the suspect was staying and the surrounding areas are also being examined in detail. Police strongly believe that the murder was not a spontaneous act. Police have received information that the accused had reached Perumthura a few days ago and had also visited the victim at her home. They have already collected full details of the suspect’s Instagram friend. The police are also investigating if anyone else is involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the post-mortem was conducted at the medical college and the body was brought to the victim’s house in Kadinamkulam. The police said the cause of death was a deep wound on the neck. There were no other injuries on the body. The knife was mostly brought by the suspect, confirming the possibility of a planned murder. Athira’s husband Rajeev will be questioned again as the police have found discrepancies in his earlier statements.
