THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Malayalam poet and lyricist Murukan Kattakada criticized renowned poet and Sahitya Akademi Chairman K. Sachidanandan’s statement against the government’s continued rule. He told a major media outlet that Sachidanandan’s response was unwise and that it was not right to speak against the government after receiving benefits from it.
“Sachidanandan’s political opinion is unwise and childish because he is not a political activist. Whatever Sachidanandan says about literature will be correct. He should be more careful when making political statements. He should not criticize the government after holding a position given by it. Sachidanandan’s politics is Delhi. He is only aware of the politics there,” Murukan Kattakada said. He added that Sachidanandan should understand that the situations in Delhi and Kerala are different.
Minister V. Sivankutty and others had come forward to criticize Sachidanandan’s statement. In a Facebook post, Sachidanandan clarified that he stands firm despite the criticism. True democracy lies in listening to those who are invisible and voiceless. This shows a correct path forward for Marxism. His post also stated that the virtual foolish paradise of cyber cowards has failed to grasp the meaning of his arguments.
Many people, including writer Sarah Joseph, came forward to support Sachidanandan’s stand. She said that the Communist Party was destroyed only because it deviated from its principles and moved towards a dictatorial nature.
