THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has become an island of hope in an ocean of overpowering tendencies of dictatorship and a national atmosphere of growing communalism and hate, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday.
“People are looking to the state with great hope,” he said in a statement released on the eve of the LDF government’s second anniversary. “Kerala will not compromise on values of secularism and democracy and will oppose the anti-people moves of communalism by introducing alternate programmes,” said the CM.
“Although the government is now into its third year, this is also its eighth year in succession. The fruits of our action have reached every person through programmes aimed at controlling inflation, housing projects, issuance of titles, development of roads, schools, hospitals and welfare pension distribution. The government has taken the policy decision to both confront the issues of today and modernise the state to meet the needs of the future,” the CM said.
“Since 2016, the government has built 3.5 lakh houses under the LIFE Mission project and issued around 3 lakh titles and 3.5 priority ration cards for the poor. Now, for the first time in the country, we have started implementing a project to eradicate extreme poverty.
The government is establishing four science parks. We have also corrected the misconception that Kerala is not industry-friendly. Nissan, Airbus, Tech Mahindra, Taurus, Tata Elxsi and Safran had started operations here. We have also corrected the propaganda that the Left is against technical knowledge by declaring the internet as a right,” he added.
