KCR family’s ‘criminal politics’: MLA Yennam

Mahbubnagar: Mahbubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy has levelled serious allegations against former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his family, claiming that they are involved in politics with “criminal intent”. Reddy’s remarks come in the wake of recent tensions in Kodangal, where farmers’ agitation allegedly turned violent, leading to attacks on district officials and the arrest of 16 people, including former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narendra Reddy.

Reddy alleged that the Kalvakuntla family, particularly KT Rama Rao (KTR), is responsible for instigating violence in Kodangal and supporting the attacks on officials. He further alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government imposed an “undeclared emergency” in the last decade, suppressing the voice of the opposition by imposing house arrests and banning protests against government policies. Making a direct reference to KTR’s recent visit to Delhi, Yennam claimed that KTR was attempting to negotiate with central officials to avoid possible arrest. “KTR fears his arrest and is trying to influence the central leaders to avoid this situation,” Yennam remarked.

Pointing to the previous acquisition of 12,000 acres of land by the BRS government for the Pharma City project in Mucherla, Reddy said the opposition leaders had cooperated with the government then as they could reap economic benefits from such projects. However, he argued that now, when the Congress is engaging with farmers for a similar project in Kodangal – a backward region that needs industrial investment – the BRS leaders are creating obstacles.

Reddy asserted that the Congress government’s industrialisation efforts in Kodangal are aimed at generating local employment and boosting growth. On the contrary, he accused the BRS leaders of attempting to incite unrest among farmers to undermine these initiatives.
