Srinagar: Kashmiris have come forward to donate to war-torn Iran. A humanitarian programme has been launched in Budgam and Baramulla districts to support the people of Iran affected by the conflict in West Asia. (Kashmiris Donations To Iran) After the Eid celebrations, volunteers from Shia-dominated areas went door to door to collect donations. Kashmiris have not only donated money, but also gold and silver ornaments, traditional copper items and livestock.
Meanwhile, many women donated their personal gold ornaments and valuable household items. A Kashmiri widow donated a gold memento she had kept for 28 years in memory of her husband. Children also donated their savings and Eid money. Budgam MLA Mumtazir Mehdi announced that he would donate one month’s salary for relief efforts in Iran.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Embassy in India shared photos and videos of the donations made by the people of Kashmir on social media. It thanked the Indians for their ‘kindness’ and ‘humanity’ for donating money and jewellery for the reconstruction of Iran. ‘We sincerely thank the people of Kashmir for their humanitarian support and heartfelt solidarity with the people of Iran. We will never forget this kindness. Thank you to India,’ the Iranian Embassy said in a statement.
However, in the wake of the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, the Iranian Embassy in India shared bank account details on social media a week ago to help the affected people. It said that donations collected by the Iranian Embassy as well as official aid agencies will be distributed to those in need. In this context, donations are pouring in from India to support the war-affected people of Iran.
