Karnataka: Whenever it rains in Maharashtra, there is no doubt that Chikkodi sub-division has been prone to floods for the last two-three decades. That is why every year people living on the banks of Krishna, Dhudhganga and Vedganga rivers in Chikkodi sub-division have to suffer such hellish suffering. Due to heavy rains in the Konkan region of Maharashtra for the last one week, the fear of flood has increased among the people living on the banks of Krishna river.
Despite the rains subsiding in the Krishna basin area of Maharashtra since yesterday, the river water is continuously rising in Chikkodi sub-division. As soon as the rain drops stop falling, the flow of water in the river also decreases. On Thursday night, the water of Krishna river engulfed more than 20 huts (from Shivamogga) where nomads lived on the outskirts of Ankali village of the taluka, after which more than 20 families woke up and moved to safer places.
Meanwhile, dozens of families here spent the entire day on Friday shifting their cattle to safer places as they feared that the river water would engulf the residential area of Ingali Totama on the banks of the Krishna river and turn it into a field. Similarly, in Yadur village, over 45 cows and calves were moved to safer places as the Krishna river water engulfed the cowshed run by the Kadasiddheshwar Math.
