Karnataka News: Counting of votes continues for ST, SWT, SWG constituencies

Mysuru. Mysuru: Counting of votes for the biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council – from South Teachers, South West Teachers and South West Graduates constituencies – is underway at Maharani Science College on JLB Road in Mysuru on Thursday.

JD(S) candidate K Vivekananda secured 3757 votes at the end of the first round of counting for the biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council from South Teachers and

South Teachers Constituency comprising Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts recorded a voter turnout of 88.07 per cent. Out of a total of 21,549 voters, 18,979 voters cast their votes. Congress candidate Marithibbegowda, JD(S) candidate K Vivekananda, Karnataka Janata Paksha candidate M Nagendra Babu Madduru, Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha candidate Vatal Nagaraj, independent candidates S Anil Kumar, Kadamba Na Ambareesh, Nagamalesh, Ningaraju S Shankanapura, K C Puttasiddashetty, Dr H A Ra Mahesh and Raju K Siddaiyahanapura were in the fray.

The South West Teachers’ Constituency election in Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Udupi districts saw a voter turnout of 82.56 per cent. Out of a total of 23,402 voters, 19,320 votes were cast.JD(S) candidate S L Bhojegowda, Congress candidate K K Manjunath Kumar, independent candidates Arun Hosakoppa, Naresh Chand Hegde, Nanjesh Bennur, T Bhaskar Shetty, K K Manjunath Kumar and S R Harish Acharya were in the fray.

A voter turnout of 78.19 per cent was recorded in the South West Graduates Constituency election held in Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Kodagu, Shimoga and Udupi districts. Out of a total of 85,089 voters, 66,529 voters cast their votes. Congress candidate Ayanur Manjunath, BJP candidate Dhananjay Sarji, Sarva Janata Party candidate G C Patel, Independent candidates K Raghupati Bhat, Dinakar Ullal, S P Dinesh, B Mohammed Thumbe, Sheikh Bava Mangalore, G R Shadaksharappa and Shahraj Mujahid Siddiqui were in the fray.

The strong room was opened at 7:45 am amid tight police security in the presence of Mysuru Regional Commissioner G C Prakash and counting of votes began around 8 am. Counting was done on 14 tables. There was one observer and two assistants at each table. One agent for each candidate was allowed at each table. Polling for all the three constituencies was held on Monday. In view of the counting of votes, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth had imposed Section 144 of CrPC in Mysuru city from 6 am on Thursday to 5 pm on Friday.
