Karnataka : Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Wednesday said 700 volunteers and 240 health inspectors have been appointed to take extra precautions to prevent dengue in the city with the onset of the monsoon season. The minister was speaking at the state-level National Dengue Day celebrations organised by the Health Department and Greater Bengaluru at the city’s Town Hall on Wednesday. With 40 to 50 per cent of dengue cases being reported in Bengaluru alone, it is essential that citizens take extra precautions. We need to give top priority to our health. He said we can control the spread of dengue only when people take responsibility for their surroundings. A campaign to defeat dengue with the slogan “Check, Clean, Cover” has been launched in collaboration with the Health Department and Greater Bengaluru and precautionary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in public places and stagnant water areas. He said dengue can be controlled only when the public themselves give priority to cleanliness and adopt safety measures. Our aim is to make Bengaluru a dengue-free city and we call upon volunteers, ASHA workers and health workers to work together to build a healthy city.
During this, the minister went door-to-door in Kumbhargundi area of Chikkapet and made people aware about the measures to prevent dengue.
Water units in the house, water tanks, drains, old tyres near the house, coconut shells are the places where Aedes mosquitoes make their nests. All these places should be kept as clean as possible. Dengue can be completely controlled through cleanliness. He told the people that first of all we should keep the areas around our house clean.
