Karnataka: Eight fishermen rescued after boat capsizes in mid-sea

Eight fishermen aboard were rescued by fishermen from another boat after a deep sea fishing boat capsized off Malpe coast in Udupi district, police said. The ship, ‘Shree Narayana’, had gone out to sea from Malpe port on the night of December 12. It capsized during the morning of 19 December when the ship started taking on water after its bottom broke off after striking an object. The crew immediately sent an emergency distress message to other fishing boats in the vicinity. Responding to the call, fishermen from another boat, “Shri Mookambika Anugrah”, helped rescue the people trapped on the boat. Police said that the rescued fishermen have been safely brought to the shore.
