Kargil victory is the victory of 140 crore people of India: PM Modi

Ladakh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the victory of Kargil war is neither the victory of any government nor of any political group. It is the victory of 140 crore people of India. Addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of the victory of the Kargil war, the Prime Minister said that he has come to pay respect and tribute to those brave soldiers who made the country proud by defeating the enemy in 1999.

Criticizing the previous governments of the country, he said that they did not even build a war memorial in the country in honor of the brave. PM Modi said, “For 70 years, the people sitting in the government kept postponing the demand for building a war memorial on one pretext or the other. They do not even remember participating in the celebration of the victory of the Kargil war today. I have got the privilege of participating in the silver jubilee celebrations of Kargil victory. People have elected me for the third time. Had they come to power, they would not be here today.”

The Prime Minister said that for previous governments, the defence forces were only for parades and salutes. For us, they are the sentinels of our borders, who guarantee peace, security of the people and integrity of the country.” He also spoke about the alleged fraud committed by previous governments in defence deals. He said, they did not want our defence forces to have new fighter aircraft. They are opposing the Agneepath scheme, which aims to make our soldiers young and ready for war. They are saying that the Agniveer scheme has been started by Narendra Modi to save pensions. They forget that a soldier recruited today will be eligible to get pension after 30 years and by then Modi would be 105 years old.
