Tamil Nadu : The main event of Chithirai festival of Kanchipuram Varadarajaswamy temple, the famous temple of Athivaradhar, was held on Saturday. Perundevithayir Sametha Varadarajaswamy temple located in Kanchipuram has the pride of receiving the blessings of the Azhwars. Chithirai festival of this temple started on Sunday with flag hoisting on the 11th of the current month. On the third day of the festival, Utsava Varadarajaswamy came on the road riding a golden Garuda vehicle and blessed the devotees. On the occasion of the main event of the festival, Rath Yatra, Sridevi, along with Bhudevi Nachiyar, rode on a chariot decorated with braids in a royal style from Utsava Varadarajaswamy temple. After this, the Rath Yatra was taken out. Heavy police security arrangements were also made under the leadership of Kanchipuram SP K. Shanmugam. In view of the procession, drinking water tanks and toilets were arranged at many places in the city for the safety of the devotees. The police was also engaged in security work by installing high towers in the city.
