Kanchipuram: Fire at Mobis India plant, Hyundai production temporarily halted

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Hyundai car production has been temporarily halted due to a fire incident at the plant of Hyundai’s main parts supplier, Mobis India, at Irungattukottai in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. The company said in a statement issued to the stock exchange on Monday that it was a relief that no one was injured in the fire that broke out last Sunday afternoon.

According to information available on the spot, the fire broke out at the Mobis India plant, which supplies audio equipment and other critical parts to Hyundai. Without these parts, the assembly work of the cars was affected, due to which production was temporarily stopped. However, the company clarified that there will be no impact on the supply of vehicles to customers at present. Due to availability of adequate stock in Hyundai’s dealer network, the supply of new cars in the market will not be disrupted.

Special teams from both Hyundai and Mobis India immediately reached the spot and started work to clear the blockage caused by the fire. The main objective of these teams is to restore the production line as soon as possible and to fully assess the damage caused by the accident. The company said coordination between the teams will help reduce losses and restart the production process quickly.

According to experts, the supply chain in the automotive industry is extremely sensitive and incidents like a fire at a plant of any major supplier can directly impact production. In such cases, the impact on market supply is limited since companies have stock and backup suppliers. Hyundai has assured its customers that the deliveries of its new cars will continue on time.

Following this incident, the company also plans to review security measures and take steps to prevent such incidents in future. The fire department and the company’s technical team are jointly investigating to find out the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports say that the fire may have been caused by some technical fault, but it is too early to reach any conclusion until the final report comes.

Hyundai, in its stock exchange statement, reassured customers and investors that the production interruption is temporary and it will not take long for production to return to normal. The company said that customers will not face any problem on delivery of vehicles or at the dealership.

This incident at Mobis India plant shows the importance of auto parts supply. This makes it clear that any disruption in the operations of a major parts supplier can have an impact on the entire production network. Therefore, automobile companies are constantly paying attention to emergency management and backup plans.

Hyundai said teams are working around the clock to restart production and assess the damage. The company assured that the production disruption will be completely resolved soon and the market supply of vehicles will remain normal.
