Jubilee actress Shweta Basu turns director, short film ‘Retake’ to be screened at New York Film Festival
Anupam Kher, who has done more than 500 films, is now going to be seen in a short film titled Retake. The film will be premiered at the New York Indian Film Festival. The retake is directed by Shweta Basu Prasad. Shweta has also written the film.
Applause Entertainment has produced the film. Retake is a thought-provoking short film, the story of which revolves around a 60 years old actor. The artist attends her mentor’s funeral and meets her ex-boyfriend. This friend raised questions about her choices and the pursuit of art.
The film will be shown on May 13
It will premiere at the film festival on May 13 at 12:15 pm. Apart from Anupam Kher, the film will also feature Zarina Wahab and Danish Hussain in pivotal roles. The film is edited by Aarthi Bajaj, while the sound design is by Resul Pookutty.
Shweta worked with Anupam Kher in The Tashkent Files, which was directed by Vivek Agnihotri. This is Shweta’s directorial debut. Shweta played a character in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film India Lockdown, which came last year. The film was streamed on Zee5. In the recently released web series Jubilee, Shweta played the role of Ratna Das, wife of Aparshakti Khurana’s character Binod Das.
Gulmohar will also be screened
The New York Indian Film Festival is a major film festival in North America. This time it is to be organized from 11 to 14 May. Apart from feature films, documentaries and short films will be screened at the festival.
The ceremony will open with the Hindi film The Three of Us, while the closing ceremony will be held with the English film Goldfish, starring Kalki Keklan and Deepti Naval.
Apart from the opening closing films, a special screening of Gulmohar directed by Rahul Chittela will be organised. Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore played the lead roles in this film. The film was streamed on Disney Plus Hotstar and was well received. The film received positive response from the critics as well.
