Srinagar: As Covid-19 is receding again in some parts of the country, a new case of coronavirus has been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting authorities to advise people to take extra precautions. An official of the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, said that one person had come in contact with a traveler who had returned from abroad and had tested positive for Covid. GMC Director Dr Ashutosh Gupta said that they are contact tracing the Covid cases and at the moment it has not been confirmed whether it is related to the new variant JN.1. “A sample has been sent for genomic sequencing. It will take 3 to 4 weeks for the information to be published. In any case, there is nothing unusual about COVID-19 cases being detected, or these cases will continue to emerge because (COVID) has not disappeared”, he said. The only thing required is to strictly follow Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB), Dr Ashutosh said. From March 2020, when the pandemic began, to April this year, Jammu and Kashmir reported nearly 4800 Covid-related deaths and over 4.75 lakh people were found infected with the virus.
