Jharsuguda bypoll: Congress gives ticket to Tarun Pandey

Bhubaneswar (IANS) | On Monday, Congress announced ticket to Tarun Pandey for the by-election to be held on May 10 in Odisha’s Jharsuguda assembly seat.

Party General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said in a statement that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of Tarun Pandey.

Former MLA of Pandey Jharsuguda self. Birendra is the son of Pandey. Birendra Pandey won from this seat in 1980, 1985 and 1995.

Thanking the party for being nominated, Tarun Pandey said that he would raise the issues of air pollution, unemployment and law and order during the elections. He said, I am in politics since 2000. My father is no more. We will miss him in this election. However, we are ready and will do our best to win.

This seat fell vacant after the assassination of Minister Naba Kishore Das on 29 January 2023. The ruling Biju Janata Dal in the state has fielded his daughter Deepali as its candidate in the bypoll. It is expected that BJP will give ticket to youth leader Tankadhar Tripathi.
