Jammu-Srinagar highway closed due to landslide

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed for traffic on Thursday due to landslides at various places in Ramban district.

“Fresh landslides have occurred on the highway at Dalwas, Cafeteria More and some other places. Clearance operations are underway. The highway is closed for traffic and passengers are advised to contact our control rooms in Jammu and Srinagar before resuming the journey,” officials said. It is advisable to do so.”

The road remained open for two-way traffic on Wednesday.

All essential supplies are transported to the valley through the Jammu-Srinagar Highway and temporary blockade of this highway often results in shortage of essential commodities in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Srinagar-Leh, Mughal Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar Road and Doda-Chamba Road are still closed for traffic.
The Meteorological Department on Thursday has predicted generally dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir till March 20.

The minimum temperature was 4 in Srinagar, minus 4.8 in Gulmarg and minus 1.3 in Pahalgam. The minimum temperature was minus 3 in Leh city of Ladakh region, minus 4.4 in Kargil and minus 6.7 in Dras. The minimum temperature was 13.5 in Jammu city, 8.6 in Katra, 2.2 in Batote, 3.6 in Bhaderwah and 3 degrees in Banihal.
