Jammu and Kashmir News: Angry people protesting against the anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday attacked a police team. At least five policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police, were injured in this alleged attack. The news of the attack on the police team created a stir. Officials said that a campaign was launched to demolish an illegally built place of worship in the Nagari area of Hiranagar in the district. Local people were opposing this. When the police along with the revenue department team reached to remove the encroachment, a group of protesting people became furious. He said that the protesters became violent and attacked the police, in which five policemen including a deputy superintendent were injured.

Officials said that additional security forces have been sent to the area to restore law and order. According to the police officer, on Saturday, the police and revenue department team had reached Purba Chak village to remove the encroachment. Local people opposed it. Suddenly they pelted stones at the police and revenue team. Policemen were injured by bricks and stones. The team barely saved their lives from the violent mob. The news caused a sensation in the district police administration.

The Kathua administration says that notice has been given twice in the village to remove the encroachment. Even after the notice, the construction work was going on there.
