Jambu Zoo ready to welcome Royal Bengal Tiger pair

A pair of real Bengal tigers will soon be taken to the newly constructed zoo at Jambu on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on the outskirts of the city. The nine-year-old pair of Asiatic lions will be kept in the zoo after they were brought to the zoo from Park Zoological Sakkarbagh in Gujarat’s Junagadh.

According to a wildlife department official, the tigers will be brought by train from Arignar Anna Zoo in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. A pair of black bears from the Himalayan Zoo in Jambu were sent to the zoological park on November 7 in exchange for a pair of tigers. As per the Jambu Zoo’s animal collection plan, the pair of tigers will be moved to the UT. The real Bengal tiger is the largest, ferocious and most powerful member of India’s giant tiger family. Each Bengal tiger has a unique pattern of rays and no two Bengal tigers are alike. In fact, every tiger on earth has a pattern of rays that is different from other tigers and facilitates their counting during the tiger census”, the official said. The pair of tigers will live in a natural enclosure enriched with space of more than 4,500 square meters as per the standards, with water tanks, heating and ventilation facilities for extreme climatic conditions. The tigers will be kept in quarantine for a week and then released into the plains for public display.
