Jalandhar: Two tipper trucks seized for illegally transporting mining material

Jalandhar: The Mining and Geology Department took action against illegal mining during a routine checking in Garhshankar late last night. Two tipper trucks carrying mining material without valid documents were seized. According to Harkanwal Singh, SDO, Mining and Geology Department, the action was taken on the intervening night of January 2nd and 3rd. A team of the department, led by Junior Engineer-cum-Mining Officer Lovepreet Singh, was conducting a routine checking when two tipper trucks were stopped. The vehicles, with registration numbers PB-23 AB 0563 and HP-72 D 0982, were found carrying mining material without the required legal documents.
The department issued challans under Rules 74 and 75 of the PMMR Act, 2013, and both tipper trucks were seized on the spot. The seized vehicles have been parked at the Garhshankar Truck Union’s premises, and the Garhshankar police have been informed of the matter. SDO Harkamal Singh further stated that a penalty of approximately ₹3.25 lakh is expected. If the penalty amount is not deposited within 15 days, an FIR will be filed against the violators as per the law. Mining and Geology Department officials reiterated that strict action against illegal mining and transportation will continue to be taken to prevent violations and protect natural resources.
