Jalandhar: Jalandhar (rural) police have arrested two absconding suspects involved in an attempt to murder case, which was unsolved for two years. The arrested suspects have been identified as Suleman and Sandeep Singh, residents of Butra village in Bhogpur sub-tehsil. Talking to reporters, Jalandhar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said, “These persons were wanted in a serious crime and were absconding for a long time. Jalandhar (rural) police is committed to bring such fugitives out of the clutches of justice,” the SSP said. The SSP said the operation was carried out under the supervision of Jasroop Kaur Baath, SP (investigation) and Kulwant Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Adampur sub-division. The SSP said the team was led by Inspector Sikander Singh Virk, station house officer (SHO), Bhogpur police station. The attempt to murder case dates back to August 2022, when Gurnam Singh, a resident of Ladoi village, lodged a report of an attack on him and his nephew Maninder Singh. The incident took place near his haveli in Ladoi village in the evening. Four unidentified persons with covered faces arrived at the haveli on a black Pulsar motorcycle and attacked the complainant with a handpump handle, seriously injuring him. After evading arrest for more than two years by repeatedly changing hideouts, the two suspects were nabbed and arrested in a well-planned operation by the Bhogpur police team on Friday. FIR No. 100 was registered on August 20, 2022 at Bhogpur police station under Sections 307, 326, 342, 201, 148, 149 and 120-B of the IPC. Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested persons have a history of violent behaviour and were evading law enforcement agencies by changing hideouts. The arrested suspects will be produced in court to seek their remand for further investigation into the case and to confirm any criminal connection.
