Jalandhar: Two including a woman arrested with 57 grams of heroin and narcotics

Jalandhar: Shahkot police today arrested a man and a woman with drugs during an ongoing search operation in Shahkot and Mehatpur. In the operation conducted under the “War Against Drugs” campaign being run by the police under the leadership of SSP Gurmeet Singh in Mehatpur and Shahkot, police seized 57 grams of heroin, 107 intoxicating pills, a motorcycle, drug money worth Rs 9,200 and an electronic weighing machine from two accused. DSP Shahkot Omkar Singh Brar said that during a CASO (cordon and search operation) operation conducted by a team led by SI Lakhbir Singh, police apprehended a person riding a motorcycle from whom heroin and drug money were seized. The recovery was made during the operation near Hanuman Mandir in Shahkot. The accused has been identified as Deepak Sharma, resident of Mohalla Ramgarhia, Shahkot. He was arrested with 57 grams of heroin and drug money worth Rs 9,200, police said. The smuggler was arrested near a temple in Shahkot when police were checking vehicles during the ongoing operation, officials said. Based on suspicion, Deepak Sharma, who was driving a motorcycle, was arrested. The motorcycle, 57 grams of heroin, drug money and an electronic weighing machine were seized from him. A case has been registered against Deepak Sharma under sections 21 (b), 27 (a), 61 and 84 of the NDPS Act at Shahkot police station on March 29. Meanwhile, DSP Shahkot Omkar Singh Brar said that during the Mehatpur phase of the CASO led by SI Gurnam Singh, police arrested a woman named Asha Rani alias Pinky, a resident of Mamdevala in Fazilka, who lives in Umrewal Bille village in Mehatpur. The woman was arrested with 107 intoxicating pills. A case has been registered against the woman under sections 22 (B), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act in Mehatpur, Jalandhar. Preliminary investigation has been started in the case. Similarly, search operations are being conducted at many other places.
