Jalandhar: In another case of immigration fraud in Phagwara, police have registered a case against a fake travel agent for allegedly defrauding local residents on the pretext of sending them abroad. The complaints involve financial losses running into lakhs of rupees. Kulwinder Ram, a resident of Chewa village under the Phagwara Sadar police station, alleged in his complaint that local travel agent Balwinder Singh, a resident of Raytinda village, defrauded him of Rs 4 lakh by promising to arrange a trip to Greece.
According to the FIR, Balwinder allegedly took the money but could not produce any visa or travel documents. After receiving the money, he allegedly stopped responding to the victim’s calls and messages. Following an investigation by Phagwara police and Immigration Bureau officials, a case was registered against the accused under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and section 13 of the Punjab Travel Business Regulation Act, 2014. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway.
