Jalandhar: Three-year-old girl dies after being hit by a car

Jalandhar: A three-year-old girl died in an accident near Medicity Hospital on Khambra Road this morning. The girl has been identified as Kareena. She suddenly came behind the car coming from behind and suffered head injuries due to the collision. Eyewitnesses said that the driver was reversing the vehicle at that time but he did not notice the sudden appearance of the girl. Despite the efforts of the driver to immediately take her to the nearest hospital, Kareena succumbed to her injuries. The incident took place around 10 am when Kareena was playing near her house. Her family, originally from Bihar, lives in Jalandhar and earns a modest livelihood by working as labourers. At the time of the accident, her mother had gone to work while the father had gone to his native village in Bihar. ASI Kashmir Singh from Sadar police station reached the spot and took the driver Gurpreet Singh into custody. The vehicle was also seized and statements of witnesses were recorded to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident as no CCTV camera was found near the spot. Kareena’s body has been sent to Jalandhar Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the accident has left the family devastated. Neighbours said Kareena was playing near the road and was earlier sent inside the house by her family and neighbours for safety but she came out again. Hearing the news of the incident, her mother rushed to the spot and fainted. SHO of Thana Sadar Suresh Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against Gurpreet Singh under Section 106 of the BNS and he was arrested on the spot. He said the driver was reversing the vehicle for parking when suddenly the girl came in front and hit her. He said further investigation is underway.
