Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate police have solved a theft case with the arrest of a suspect and recovered Rs 1.14 lakh stolen cash from his possession.
Giving information, Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma said Satish Malhotra, a resident of Santokhpura, had reported a theft at his shop — Malhotra Enterprises — in Diskusha Market. Malhotra discovered that an unknown individual had broken into his shop and stolen Rs 1,14,800 in cash on August 10.
Upon receiving complaint, the police launched an investigation into the matter. Utilising both human intelligence and scientific evidence, the police were able to trace the suspect, identified as Harwinder Pal Singh, also known as Paala, a resident of Johla village.
Multiple raids were conducted by the police at various locations leading to the arrest of Singh, who was found in possession of the stolen amount. Sharma confirmed that an FIR had been registered under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the BNS at the Division No. 4 police station. He said an investigation was in progress to find if Singh was involved in other similar crimes. So far, no prior criminal record of the suspect was found, Sharma added.
