Jalandhar: Leaders and activists from several Scheduled Caste organizations, including the Ambedkar Sena Moolnivasi, Yuva Vikas Morcha, and the Congress SC Wing, met with Phagwara Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhavi Sharma at a local rest house on Thursday and described the police action in the alleged attack on Shiv Sena leader Indrajit Karwal and his son Jimmy Karwal on the evening of November 18th as “biased and one-sided.” The representatives stated that there was widespread anger among the SC communities in Phagwara, who felt the police were acting selectively in the case. Valmiki community leader Dharamvir Sethi alleged that the Phagwara police appeared to be favoring Jimmy Karwal, and that adding Section 307 to the FIR against Tanish was “wrong” and should be withdrawn. Yuva Vikas Morcha president Anu Sahota said that a video circulating on social media allegedly showed Jimmy Karwal initiating the confrontation, but the footage was late in the mainstream media. Sahota said the organization would submit the video to the Superintendent of Police on a pen drive and, after examining the evidence, demand the registration of an FIR against Inderjit Karwal and Jimmy under all applicable sections. Balwinder Bodh, president of the Ambedkar Sena Moolnivasi, alleged that similar incidents have occurred with Shiv Sena leaders in the past “to gain police protection.” He further claimed that several Shiv Sena leaders in Phagwara are currently out on bail in the 2018 murder case of Bobby, an SC youth, and demanded the cancellation of their bail. Later, the delegation submitted a written memorandum to Superintendent of Police Madhavi Sharma, demanding immediate action in Tanish’s favor. Dharamvir Sethi also criticized Shiv Sena leaders for “vitiating the atmosphere of the city” by calling for a shutdown, while shopkeepers expressed anger over the economic losses they reportedly suffered during the November 19 shutdown, for which they blamed Shiv Sena leaders.
