Jalandhar: Somnath Shivling attracts devotees in city centre

Jalandhar: A spiritual atmosphere prevailed in the city center of Hoshiarpur today, where a special darshan of the two sacred Somnath Shivlingas was organized. A large number of devotees gathered to seek blessings and participate in religious rituals. The event began with a Rudrabhishekam performed by learned priests amid Vedic chants. Devotees also participated in the singing of hymns, creating a devotional atmosphere filled with faith and positivity. According to religious belief, this sacred Shivlinga is associated with the ancient Somnath Temple. Historical records state that in 1024, Mahmud Ghaznavi attacked and destroyed the temple.
It is believed that devotees preserved the sacred relics and worshipped them secretly for nearly 900 years. Later, the sacred relics were taken to Kanchi Shankaracharya, who instructed them to be kept hidden for the next 100 years. It is believed that after India’s independence and the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the relics will be handed over to a saint named Shankara for reinstallation. Last year, the sacred Shivalinga was presented to Art of Living Foundation founder and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at his Bengaluru ashram. The sacred Shivalinga arrived in Hoshiarpur at 4:00 pm today, where devotees offered prayers and expressed deep reverence.
