Jalandhar: Seechewal Water Sports Team wins multiple medals

Jalandhar: The Punjab team delivered a stellar performance at the 14th National Dragon Boat Championship in Bhopal, winning silver and bronze medals and bringing laurels to the state. The national championship was held from January 6th to January 9th and featured competitions for both boys and girls in both junior and senior categories. Upon the return of the winning athletes, Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal honored them on the banks of the sacred Kali Bein. Congratulating the athletes, Sant Seechewal stated that these medals were the result of consistent, hard work and dedicated preparation in extreme cold. He praised the athletes’ determination and enthusiasm and encouraged them to achieve even greater success in the future.
It is noteworthy that due to administrative reasons, the Punjab team was initially not selected to participate in the championship. Sant Seechewal immediately wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, drawing his attention to the serious matter, after which the Punjab team was finally allowed to participate in the competition. Sant Seechewal also thanked the Chief Minister for his timely intervention. Team coach Amandeep Singh Khehra stated that the Punjab team was fully prepared. He explained that teamwork is crucial in dragon boat racing, where 10 athletes in the junior category and 20 athletes in the senior category compete together, working together to propel the boat forward. Coach Khehra further stated that the absence of trials caused some mental pressure on the athletes, but despite this, they delivered impressive performances. He further stated that a total of 36 athletes from the Sant Seechewal Water Sports Center participated in the National Championships and together won 28 silver and bronze medals, bringing honor to the center and the state of Punjab.
