Jalandhar: Ram Nagar residents block road to protest water crisis

Jalandhar: The people of Ram Nagar staged a sit-in protest against the non-supply of water in their area on Saturday night. They also disrupted traffic while protesting against the Municipal Council. Ram Nagar area has been in the news for some time now. Earlier also, people had protested against the Municipal Corporation due to waterlogging and sewerage problems during the rains. But the Municipal Corporation officials say that they are constantly making efforts to solve the problem of the area. Municipal Corporation SDO Gursharanjit Singh Saini said that the motor of the tubewell had broken down on Friday and contractors were immediately sent to the spot to fix it.

He said, “Due to some problem, the process of starting the motor got delayed and the problem could be solved late at night.” The contractors were still trying to fix the fault when people started protesting. The official also said that tankers were immediately sent to the area so that no person remains without drinking water. The SDO said, “Now the problem has been resolved.” The municipal corporation official said that an estimate has already been made to lay new pipelines under the transparency act for emergency works. He claimed that this will end the problem of waterlogging and sewerage related problems in Ram Nagar. Recently, local bodies minister Balkar Singh, while reviewing the problem of waterlogging in Ram Nagar, Gazigulla, Dakoha, Dhanowali areas of the city, had asked the municipal corporation officials to solve these problems as soon as possible so that people can get relief.
