Jalandhar: Police investigating extortion and enmity angles, arrests expected soon

Jalandhar: Following the late-night firing incident at the home of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Daljit Raju in Darvesh village near Phagwara, senior police officials have intensified the investigation and expressed confidence that those behind the attack will be apprehended soon. Jalandhar Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Naveen Singla, who visited the scene to assess the situation, said that several specialized wings of the Punjab Police have been deployed to ensure a speedy breakthrough. Speaking to The Tribune on Thursday evening, the DIG said that the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) ββand counter-intelligence units are actively assisting local police teams in tracking down the attackers and analyzing the motive behind the attack. DIG Singla confirmed that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora was personally overseeing the investigation, and that teams were working around the clock to investigate every possible lead. He said, “We are investigating all angles, including personal enmity, extortion threats, and political motives,” adding that nothing is being ruled out at this stage. He further stated that given Raju’s role as the coordinator of the state’s Yudh Nishan De Viruddh (anti-drug initiative), the possibility of gangster network involvement cannot be ruled out. Police officials said that the firing pattern and initial clues found at the crime scene suggest that the attackers were familiar with the area and may have intended to issue a warning. While forensic teams continue to collect evidence and examine CCTV footage from nearby areas, the police have also deployed technical surveillance and intelligence inputs to track down suspects who are suspected to have fled shortly after the incident. Assuring the public of swift action, DIG Singla reiterated that the police are “moving in the right direction” and expect to make arrests soon as the investigation progresses.
