Jalandhar: To maintain law and order in the university area, Phagwara police conducted a massive vehicle checking and surveillance drive at Law Gate near Lovely Professional University late Saturday night. Led by Phagwara Superintendent of Police Madhavi Sharma (PPS), the drive began around midnight and a dedicated police team was deployed in the area. Vehicles were checked in and around the Law Gate area, which is a hub of youth and pedestrians, especially late at night. Police officers thoroughly identified individuals present and checked relevant documents. The drive aimed to curb illegal activities and ensure the safety of students and the general public. Shops found open beyond the prescribed opening hours were also inspected.
Officers issued a strict warning to shopkeepers to adhere to the government-prescribed opening hours and emphasized that violations would result in legal action in the future. As a result of the drive, 14 motorcycles were challaned for various violations, while four motorcycles and three cars were impounded. In a significant discovery, a sharp-edged weapon (Datar) was recovered from a vehicle, following which preventive action was taken against seven occupants. Superintendent of Police Madhavi Sharma confirmed that such surprise raids will be conducted regularly in the city to prevent criminal activities and ensure security, especially around educational institutions. The police department is committed to keeping public places safe from illegal activities, especially late at night.
