Jalandhar: Olympian hockey gold medallist Garcha is no more.

Jalandhar: Hockey Olympian and gold medalist Davinder Singh Garcha (73) passed away on Saturday. A retired IPS officer and DIG of the Punjab Police, Garcha was part of the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He scored eight goals in six Olympic matches. He was also a Dhyan Chand Awardee. Remembering his achievements, Iqbal Singh, a former PCS officer and CEO of the Olympian Surjit Hockey Society, said, “Garcha played more than 30 international matches. In just three of these tournaments, he scored 19 goals. He was the president of the society that organizes the Mohinder Singh Munshi Hockey Tournament every year. The Olympian Surjit Hockey Society prays to God to give the family the courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.” The family has not yet decided on a funeral date.
