Jalandhar: Mobile phone recovered from a prisoner in jail and heroin recovered from a youth.

Jalandhar: In two separate incidents, police have registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after recovering a mobile phone from an inmate in Kapurthala jail and heroin from a youth in Mohali. A mobile phone was recovered from an undertrial prisoner during a search operation conducted by jail security staff. The inmate, identified as Manjeet Singh alias Baba, a resident of Chamiyara village in Jalandhar, was lodged in the Kapurthala Central Jail. During a routine check of inmates by an internal jail guard, officials found a mobile phone with a SIM card and battery hidden in his clothes. Following the recovery, a case was registered against the inmate under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act for illegally possessing a communication device inside the jail premises.
In a separate operation on the same day, a police team intercepted a suspicious person during routine patrolling. The suspect, riding a motorcycle with registration number PB09 AP 1239, reportedly panicked upon seeing police and attempted to destroy a small polythene packet by throwing it on the roadside. The police team immediately apprehended the man, who was identified as Prakash Sharma alias Sunny, a resident of Lodhipur, District Bhojpur, Bihar, currently residing in room number 104 of Avjot PG in Miheru village. A search of the discarded packet yielded 8 grams of heroin. The suspect was taken into custody and a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
