Jalandhar: The parents of the minor girl who died at the Gandhi Vanita Ashram on the night of November 21st have demanded a proper investigation into their 15-year-old daughter’s death. They have also raised questions about her sudden death. Officials stated that CCTV footage from the ashram is being examined to determine the circumstances of the girl’s death. Jalandhar SDM II Shayari Malhotra, who is investigating the case, was informed by the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner. She told The Tribune that the girl’s parents were summoned during the ongoing investigation on Thursday. According to administration officials, they expect a proper investigation into the incident and have also raised questions about their daughter’s sudden death. The 15-year-old girl, who was referred to Jalandhar by the Child Welfare Committee, Ferozepur, and arrived in Jalandhar on November 19th, died mysteriously at the ashram’s children’s home on November 21st.
Staff at the children’s home reported finding her collapsed in the toilet. Officials investigating the incident stated that an exhaust fan in the restroom had fallen, and a chair was also found in the bathroom. Police Station No. 2 officials initiated proceedings, but no FIR has been filed. Officials stated that the exact cause of the girl’s death will only be known after the postmortem report. The girl’s viscera has also been sent for examination. Speaking to The Tribune, SDM II, Jalandhar, Shayari Malhotra, said, “We have recorded statements from all concerned. They (the parents) are heartbroken by their daughter’s death. They have no suspicions or doubts about anyone. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and want to know the cause of the girl’s death.” The SDM also met with a member of the board of doctors formed to investigate the case on Thursday. Another member of the board of doctors will appear before the SDM on Monday. When asked whether CCTV footage from the ashram is being examined, the SDM said, “All aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated.”
