Jalandhar: Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh handed over appointment letters to 24 MBBS doctors posted as house surgeons in the district at the local civil hospital. He said that the appointment of doctors will accelerate the health services, which will benefit people not only in the civil hospital but also in the sub-divisional hospitals. He said that out of these 24 doctors, eight will be posted in the local civil hospital, four in the sub-divisional hospital Garhshankar, five in Dasuya and two in Mukerian, so that health facilities can be provided in the hospitals.
Revenue officers on mass leave
Phagwara: On the call of Punjab Revenue Officers Association, all the revenue officers of Phagwara, Goraya, Phillaur, Nakodar and Nurmahal went on mass leave on Wednesday in protest against the arrest of Barnala Tehsildar Sukhcharan Singh Channi by the Vigilance Bureau. They were protesting against the action of the vigilance.
Case registered against villager who made extortion call
Phagwara: Police have registered a case against a villager of Tarn Taran for demanding a ransom of Rs 2.50 crore. The accused has been identified as Satta of Naushera village in Tarn Taran district. Harpreet Singh of Talwann village complained to the police that the accused made a WhatsApp call on his phone number on November 27 demanding a ransom of Rs 2.50 crore and threatened to kill him if he did not pay the money.
Man arrested for casteist remarks
Phagwara: Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a villager for making casteist remarks, criminal intimidation and blocking the road. Nakodar DSP Sukhpal Singh said the accused has been identified as Amritpal of Ida village.
Shahkot police facing staff shortage
Phagwara: Shahkot police is facing staff shortage. There are only 55 policemen here against the sanctioned strength of 106 policemen. All 14 sanctioned posts of head constables are lying vacant, while 48 of the 80 posts of constables are vacant. Home guards are doing the work of constables and patrolling has been reduced, sources said.
Drug smuggler PO arrested
Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) who was absconding for the last eight months. Investigating officer Major Singh said the accused has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Ida village. The accused was wanted in a drug smuggling case registered on December 17, 2019 and was declared a PO on March 27.
One arrested with liquor
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested a smuggler and recovered 21,000 ml of liquor from him. The accused has been identified as Gurmel Kumar alias Golu, a resident of Adamwal.
