Jalandhar: Four people sent to 3-day police custody

Jalandhar: A local court has remanded four accused arrested in connection with recent criminal incidents in and around Phagwara, including the firing at Sudhir Sweets on Hoshiarpur Road, to three-day police custody. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rupinder Singh alias Pinda, a resident of Miheru village; Sukhraj Singh alias Sukha, a resident of Bid-Puaad village near Phagwara; Kamalpreet Singh alias Peeta, a resident of Sandhwan village near Behram; and Harjeet Singh, a resident of Khera village in Phagwara. Police recovered two vehicles – a Hyundai Verna and a Hyundai Venue – allegedly used by the accused in the crime. Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Tura, along with SP (Detective) Prabhjot Singh Virk and Phagwara SP Madhavi Sharma, addressed a press conference in Phagwara. According to the SSP, during interrogation, the accused confessed to being involved in one criminal incident each in the Mukandpur and Behram areas. He further stated that the accused revealed the names of two of their accomplices. He said that more revelations are expected as the investigation progresses. Police are confident of recovering the weapon used in the crime and the scooter involved in the Sudhir Sweets shooting incident. The SSP assured that the main accused in the shooting will be apprehended soon. These arrests follow the January 12 shooting incident, when three attackers arrived on a scooter and opened fire at Sudhir Sweets on Hoshiarpur Road. Several rounds were fired at the shop’s main gate, damaging the glass windows and doors. At the time of the incident, the shop owner and four employees were inside, but no injuries were reported.
