Jalandhar: Fire in mobile shop, owner and friend injured

Jalandhar: A massive fire broke out late last night at a mobile shop, NS Mobile World, located near Ratanpura railway crossing, causing heavy damage and injuring several persons. The fire quickly engulfed the entire shop and within minutes, the entire shop was reduced to ashes. Shop owner, Nitish Kumar, a resident of Vikas Nagar, said that he had gone with his friend to buy medicines from the hospital. On returning, he saw the CCTV footage of his shop and was shocked to see the cameras switched off, which raised serious suspicion. Nitish along with his colleague Deepak Kumar reached the shop to investigate. As soon as they opened the door, a loud explosion took place, leaving both the persons with burn injuries. They were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Nitish said that the entire shop was reduced to ashes in the fire and they suffered financial losses worth lakhs of rupees. On receiving information after midnight, the fire brigade team took immediate action and brought the fire under control. Fire officer Kamal confirmed the swift action, but said that the exact cause of the fire is still unknown. Investigation is currently underway. Fire officer Kamal confirmed that the shutter of the shop was badly damaged by the explosion, which was probably caused by a mobile phone or a device connected to it. Though the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, initial reports suggest that a short-circuit may have caused the fire. Apart from the damage to the shop, more than 30 chickens at a nearby poultry shop also perished in the fire. Shop owner Kumar expressed deep grief over the incident and said that there has been a financial loss of lakhs of rupees. The quick response of the fire department prevented the situation from worsening.
