Jalandhar: The Regional Transport Office is going to launch a special drive from August 5 to facilitate issuance of learning licences for e-rickshaw and autorickshaw drivers in the city. Regional Transport Officer Amanpreet Singh said that the aim of the drive is to assist e-rickshaw and autorickshaw drivers in obtaining their learning licences. Drivers who do not have a driving licence at present can apply for a learning licence under this initiative. ARTO Vishal Goyal has been appointed as the nodal officer.
He said that a special counter will be set up at the automated driving test track to assist the applicants, with dedicated staff deployed to avoid any inconvenience. The RTO said that learning licence tests for e-rickshaw and autorickshaw drivers will be conducted on a priority basis. He further informed that a learning licence is valid for 180 days and drivers can apply for a driving licence 30 days after obtaining their learning licence. Earlier, the RTO held meetings with various associations to take the benefits of this initiative to the grassroots level. He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that every e-rickshaw and autorickshaw driver plying on the city roads has a valid licence.
