Jalandhar: The Kapurthala police have registered a case against a man for alleged fraud under Sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals Regulation Act, 2014, for making false promises of sending a person abroad. The case was registered on a complaint filed by Nachhattar Singh, a resident of Talwandi Chaudhrian near Kapurthala. According to the complaint, the accused – Raj Kumar alias Raju, and his wife Parminder Kaur, both residents of Talwandi Chaudhrian – allegedly conspired to defraud the complainant.
The complainant alleged that the accused assured him of sending him to the United States and, under this pretext, took Rs 4,62,000 from him. It is also alleged that despite taking the money, the accused neither arranged for the foreign travel nor returned the complainant’s passport and money, thereby committing fraud and criminal breach of trust. After an investigation into the matter, the allegations were found to be true, following which the police registered a formal case against the accused. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the full details of the alleged fraud and to take appropriate legal action as per the law.
