Jalandhar: Case registered against two people for visa fraud

Phagwara: Police have registered a case against Zorawar Himmat Singh and Inderjit Singh of Shahkot for defrauding him of ₹25 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the US. Harshanjit Singh of Nurmahal said that the accused took ₹25 lakh from him by promising to arrange immigration to the US, but neither sent him abroad nor returned the money. The matter was referred to the police for investigation, who investigated and recommended filing a criminal case.
Woman arrested on dowry death charges
Hoshiarpur: Chabbewal police have arrested a woman for allegedly inciting her daughter-in-law to commit suicide. Balkar Singh, a resident of village Patti, filed a complaint that his sister Manuradha was married to Deepak Kumar of village Saido Patti in 2015. He alleged that Manuradha’s mother-in-law, Paramjit Kaur, repeatedly harassed her over dowry. Mentally distressed, Manuradha allegedly hanged herself from a fan.
Drugs, Alcohol Seized, 3 Arrested
Hoshiarpur: Police have seized drugs and alcohol from various locations in the district over the past 24 hours. Four people were booked, while three were arrested. Police stopped a car for checking. During the search, they arrested Vijay Kumar and recovered banned tablets. Meanwhile, police arrested Rohit Sai of Mohalla Balmiki, Ghanta Ghar, and recovered nine bottles of illicit liquor from him. In another case, police arrested Rajinder Kumar of village Tabba and seized banned tablets.
Scooter Stolen from Gym
Phagwara: A girl named Molly Gupta’s scooter was stolen from outside a gym near Hello Food in the Hargobind Nagar area on Thursday evening. She had parked the vehicle before entering the gym and found it missing upon returning. The city police have been informed of the incident, who have launched an investigation.
Two arrested for smuggling
Phagwara: Police have registered two separate cases after recovering narcotics and illegal pills from Gulzar Singh of Mehatpur. 20 grams of heroin was allegedly recovered from the accused. In another incident, a police team from Bilga recovered 25 narcotic pills from Deepak Kumar of Patti Bhatti, Bilga, during a check. Both have been arrested.
