Jalandhar: Case filed against company for selling fuel door to door

Jalandhar: Alleging violation of safety protocols, the Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab has filed an FIR against Jio for using bowsers to distribute fuel door-to-door to agricultural vehicles in rural areas. The association members had spotted bowsers in Shahkot area on Thursday, where they raised the matter, called the police and officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department registered an FIR in this regard. Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab spokesperson Monty Sehgal alleged that such bowsers were bringing fuel from across the border and selling it at lower rates, thus evading state taxes.

“We demand that the administration thoroughly check the quality and source of fuel supplied through these bowsers and ensure that safety protocols are being followed,” said association president Paramjit Singh Doaba. Association members said such bojers had come up recently and were seen refuelling vehicles in the fields during the harvesting season, posing a serious safety hazard as fuel products are regulated under the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Act rules. Shahkot station house officer (SHO) Jatinder Singh said, “We have registered a case after receiving a report in the matter from officials of the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department.” The SHO said a case has been registered against the firm for violating the Essential Commodities Act.
