Jalandhar: City-based artist Varun Tandon continues to captivate audiences with his innovative artworks. These artworks are created using diverse materials, showcasing creativity and powerful social and cultural messages. On the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, Tandon created a unique artwork using milk and dedicated it to Lord Shiva. Speaking about his inspiration, he said, “I created a special artwork using milk. In our traditions, milk is considered sacred and pure, which is why it is offered to Lord Shiva on this holy day. It symbolizes devotion, purity, and spiritual blessings.”
The artwork beautifully captures the spiritual significance of the festival and the sacredness associated with offering milk in rituals. Earlier, on World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4th, Tandon presented a stunning series of artworks to spread awareness about cancer prevention. What made this project special was that he chose materials such as gutkha wrappers, liquor bottles, cigarettes, beedis, and even his own hair. One particular piece depicted a chemotherapy patient with hair loss, reflecting the harsh reality of cancer treatment. Through these creations, Tandon conveyed a powerful message about the consequences of harmful habits and emphasized that awareness and personal responsibility are essential steps to prevention.
Continuing his artistic tributes, Tandon recently created a portrait using the smoke of a diya (lamp) on the birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai. Explaining the symbolism behind the artwork, he said that just as a diya spreads light when lit, India’s freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to illuminate the country’s path to independence. The portrait paid tribute to the “Punjab Kesari,” who is remembered for his fearless opposition to British rule and his lasting contribution to India’s freedom struggle. Through his thought-provoking themes and innovative use of materials, Varun Tandon continues to use art as a medium to inspire devotion, raise awareness, and honor historical legacies.
