Jalandhar: 662 candidates are in the fray for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections.

Jalandhar: As per the schedule released by the Punjab State Election Commission, the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections are being held on December 14. After the scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of candidatures, a total of 662 candidates will contest the elections in Hoshiarpur district.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that after the scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of candidatures, 80 candidates are in the fray for the Zila Parishad and 582 candidates for the Panchayat Samitis. She informed that 17 members of the Panchayat Samitis have been elected unopposed/unanimously.
She further stated that voting will be held through ballot papers from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on December 14, for which the district administration is making elaborate arrangements. She informed that the counting of votes will begin at 8:00 AM on December 17. She said that the district administration is fully committed to conducting the elections in a peaceful and fair manner.
