Jalandhar: Cracking down on drug trafficking, Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has busted a heroin smuggling gang. Four members of the gang have been arrested and 250 grams of heroin has been seized. The operation was led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. Based on information received about heroin smuggling activities in the city, the police laid a trap near Y-Point Harnam-Daspura. During the operation, a suspect, identified as Sunny Vehmi, was arrested. 100 grams of heroin was recovered from Sunny, a resident of Kishanpura, Jalandhar.
Following his arrest, an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act. During investigation, three more suspects were identified – Honey Kalyan resident of Abadpura and brothers Mani and Neeraj Sabharwal residents of Basti Gujjan, Jalandhar. The police arrested the trio and recovered 100 grams of heroin from Honey Kalyan and 50 grams of heroin from Mani Sabharwal. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma revealed that the arrested persons have criminal records. Sunny and Honey have two cases pending against them, while Mani Sabharwal has four cases registered against him. However, Neeraj Sabharwal has no prior criminal history.
He said the investigation was underway and the police were determined to root out drug-related activities in the city. Commissioner Sharma, while affirming the police’s commitment to eliminate the drug menace in Jalandhar, said information about where they procured heroin from and to whom they were going to deliver it and about others involved in this smuggling would be shared as the investigation progresses.
