Jalandhar: A 22-year-old student of a private university was abducted by three bike-borne youths on Talhan Road on Monday night. One of them was dressed as a Nihang. One of the accused allegedly raped the girl while the other made a video of the act and threatened to make the video viral if she did not talk to the rapist in future. The accused have been identified as Amanjot Singh (22), Manjit Singh (25) and Ranveer Singh alias Indy (19). All of them are residents of Ladhewali. The accused were arrested under sections 366 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC at Patara police station in Jalandhar three hours after the girl approached the police. In her complaint, the girl, who lives in a paying guest accommodation, said that on Monday night she had gone to meet her friend in Dakoha along with another friend. She said they were walking on Talhan Road around 12.30 am when three men came on a motorcycle and threatened them with a kirpan and asked them not to come out at night. She alleged that when they were trying to escape, the accused took away the keys of their bike.
Ranveer threatened to kill my friend, following which two of them kidnapped me on the pretext of dropping me to my house, the complaint said. The girl further said that the accused took her to a secluded spot near the railway line where Amanjot raped her in the presence of Manjeet. The complainant claimed that the accused gave her Amanjot’s number and threatened that if she did not come when called, they would make her obscene video and photographs viral. Patara SHO Rajiv Thakur said, “The accused tried to intimidate the trio for coming out late and pretended to drop the girl at her PG accommodation. They forcibly took her away. One of them stayed back while Amanjot raped her and Manjeet recorded the video.” Jalandhar SSP Ankur Gupta said, “The matter is being investigated and the boys’ past records are being checked. The accused were arrested within a few hours. It was not a gang rape. One of the boys was wearing a Nihang outfit. Their mobiles are in police possession.” Amanjot is a college dropout, while Manjeet and Ranveer are employed.
