Jalandhar: In separate incidents, police arrested two individuals and registered cases under the Excise Act after seizing a large quantity of illicit liquor during routine checking and based on a tip-off. In the first case, police registered an FIR under sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act after arresting Puran Singh, son of Sher Singh, a resident of Patti Faujewala, Mai Sahib area, under the Bilga police station in Jalandhar district. According to police sources, ASI Vijay Kumar (number 876/JL), along with other policemen, was on patrol duty along the banks of the Sutlej River when the accused was stopped while coming from the other side. Upon searching him, police recovered 22,500 ml of illicit liquor concealed in a plastic can. The accused was taken into custody and further investigation has been initiated. Police confirmed that the accused has been arrested in the case.
In another incident, acting on a tip-off, Shahkot police registered a case under sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act against Baldev Raj alias Maddi, son of Kehar Singh, a resident of Mohalla Baghwala, Shahkot, District Jalandhar. The case was registered by SI Balbir Singh (No. 239/KPT) of Police Station Shahkot. Acting on specific intelligence, police raided the premises and recovered 20 bottles of illicit liquor from the accused. He was arrested on the spot and a case was registered against him for allegedly running an illegal liquor trade. Police officials stated that investigations are underway in both cases to trace the source of the illicit liquor and identify any larger network involved in this illegal trade. The district police reiterated their commitment to take strict action against those involved in the manufacture, transportation, and sale of illicit liquor.
