Jalandhar: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at her home in Abadpura area near Model Town. The girl, identified as Dayavanti, a Class VII student in a government school, was found hanging from a fan in her room. The incident came to light on Tuesday night when the girl’s sister returned home and went to her room and found her sister hanging from the noose. She immediately raised an alarm and her mother, who was performing puja on the ground floor of the house, rushed to the room. Police from Division No. 6 immediately reached the spot.
Investigating officer Satpal confirmed that the body was sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem last night and after completing the formalities, the body was handed over to the family today. He said, “According to initial reports, Dayavanti had returned home from school earlier in the day and went to her room. “The family had claimed in their statement that she was neither upset, nor was there anything wrong with her. Satpal said the girl did not even have her mobile phone with her and her friends at school also said she was normal like on any other day. He said the motive behind the tragic incident is still unclear. He further said the family has not suspected anyone nor sought further investigation in the case, so legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant section of the BNS.
