Italian trade unions appeal to EU for quick trade deals

Business Business: Italy’s leading trade association Confindustria on Tuesday urged the European Union to quickly conclude trade agreements with other countries while it negotiates tariffs with US President Donald Trump. Trump last week announced a 50% tariff on EU goods, which was to come into effect from June 1. However, he later postponed the date of the cap to July 9 to allow negotiations between Washington and Brussels.

“After updating agreements with Chile and Mexico, the EU should conclude an agreement with the South American bloc as soon as possible,” the Confindustria president said.

In addition, the Confindustria president demanded the EU relax budget rules, not only for defence spending, but also to support a crucial plan to boost industrial investment across Europe.
