Tamil Nadu: When Minister Ponmudi went to provide relief to the flood-affected people of Iruvelpattu village in Villupuram district, mud was thrown at him. A case has been registered against 2 people including a woman BJP leader in connection with the incident.
Cyclone Fenchal caused heavy rainfall in districts including Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Tiruvannamalai. Everywhere in these districts there was a scene like a flooded jungle. Especially in Villupuram district, most of the places have been flooded. Citizens have been greatly affected as thousands of houses have been flooded. People affected by the rain have been rescued safely and kept in relief camps, where they are being provided food, drinking water and medical assistance. The work of evacuating flooded houses across the district was started from last 2nd. 1500 people were called for this work as municipal corporation, municipal employees and sanitation workers from various outside districts.
They used huge electric motors to remove the flood spread in urban and rural areas of the district. Meanwhile, the minister went to Ponmudi to inspect the Iruvelpattu area, which was badly affected by the floods the day before yesterday. His son, Kallakurichi former MP Gautam Chikamani, Villupuram Collector Palani and others were also there. Someone got angry and threw mud lying nearby on Minister Ponmudi. In this, mud got on the shirts of Minister Ponmudi, Gautam Chikamani and Collector Palani. Immediately the policemen present there made the minister sit in the car and left with heavy security. Mud was thrown on the minister, which created a stir. In such a situation, a case has been registered against 2 people including a woman BJP leader for smearing mud on Ponmudi. Police have registered a case against Ramar alias Ramakrishnan of Iruvelpattu village and BJP women leader Vijayrani. Earlier, Minister Ponmudi, while telling about the mud throwing incident, had said, “Everyone knows who threw mud on me. They wanted to throw mud on me.” I did not get out of the car. They also said that mud was thrown at me, but I came back after looking at the affected areas for half an hour and they threw it,” he had said.
