Iran Using Telegram To Spy On Dissidents Through Installing Malware Warns Fbi

Washington: The FBI has issued a warning. It has stated that Iran is using the Telegram app for espionage. It has revealed that the messaging app is installing spying malware without the knowledge of its users. There are allegations that Iran is sending malware to dissidents, journalists, and opposition leaders using the Telegram app around the world. The American FBI has recently issued a flash alert on this. The FBI has stated that hackers from Iran’s Intelligence and Security Service are abusing the Telegram platform, injecting malware into target devices, and Iran is taking these actions to extract data from users.

The FBI has warned that intelligence gathering and data leaks are taking place. Hackers are engaging in these activities through social engineering methods. They are making contact with trusted individuals and downloading malware in the form of a common program. Once the malware is installed, they use that access to steal files and make audio recordings. The FBI said that Iran has been involved in this malware action since 2023.

The FBI said that Iran could target anyone for its own benefit. Officials urged people not to download files from unknown sources and to take basic cybersecurity precautions. However, officials have not confirmed whether the Flash Alert message is related to the ongoing US operation, Operation Epic Fury.
